Is Bridlington's marina plan sunk?

When I was reporting for Calendar News I used to cover the subject of Bridlington's bid for a marina on a regular basis.

To be honest I'm surprised that this application is still going.

Leaving aside the issues of cost and its immense size - who would actually use it?

This is how the Bridlington Free Press reports the latest:

PLANS for the £50 million marina for Bridlington could be under threat.

Government spending cuts, including the possible axing of regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, could hit the future of what has been described as a vital part of Bridlington's regeneration.

Coun Stephen Parnaby, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "We are still fully committed to Bridlington and know its importance in the region.

"As far as the marina is concerned we have to be realistic when schools, hospitals and other services are being hit throughout the country, but we are not giving up."

Is it 'us and them' between cyclists and buses in York?

I only ask because this morning illustrates an issue I've been having with buses in our city.

Cycling to the train station I detoured via Rougier Street (always a risk, I know) to find it was clogged with buses.

Anyway, at the end I slip between two but I'm forced onto the pavement but on jumping back into the road I hear a bang and check the pannier is still on.

It is...but only for a few seconds more.

It comes off by the lights and lands in the road. I stop and drag the bike back to see a single decker bus (it's a blue one so may have been the Coastliner) narrowly (and I mean by millimetres) miss the pannier.

I'm not very happy to see another bus round the corner but he stops to let me retrieve the bag. So thank you!

But the bag has a laptop computer in it - would they pay out if I made a claim for a bus having (what appeared to be deliberately) driven over it?

In most parts of York the bus drivers are considerate but in town it's like the Whacky Races some days!

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Any bloggers in York or North Yorkshire?

Just been having a trawl for other bloggers who might be writing about York and it's not been very successful.

I'd like to follow other bloggers in the region and promote what they do.

Any suggestions for blogs worth my while following would gratefully received!
